One dead, two hurt in crash near airport

One person was killed and two were injured in a violent collision that sent one of two vehicles hurtling trough a fence at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, police said.

Air traffic was not affected by the crash but roads were closed to street traffic surroundin­g the 3100 block of Prospect Road for several hours on Friday night.

One of the injured was taken to the hospital by helicopter and another went by ambulance, police said. Their conditions were not disclosed and their names were not immediatel­y available.

The collision left one car with front end damage but the other was nothing but crumpled metal.

The cause of the crash is under investigat­ion.
