One dead, two hurt in crash near air­port

One per­son was killed and two were in­jured in a vi­o­lent col­li­sion that sent one of two ve­hi­cles hurtling trough a fence at Fort Laud­erdale Ex­ec­u­tive Air­port, po­lice said.

Air traf­fic was not af­fected by the crash but roads were closed to street traf­fic sur­round­ing the 3100 block of Prospect Road for sev­eral hours on Fri­day night.

One of the in­jured was taken to the hos­pi­tal by he­li­copter and an­other went by am­bu­lance, po­lice said. Their con­di­tions were not dis­closed and their names were not im­me­di­ately avail­able.

The col­li­sion left one car with front end dam­age but the other was noth­ing but crum­pled metal.

The cause of the crash is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
