AR­LENE HECHTER LAKIN, At­tor­ney

Mrs. Ar­lene Hechter Lakin sud­denly passed away on Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 6, 2018, at age 71. Her par­ents were Estelle nee Park­man and Ge­orge Hec­ther. Her el­dest sur­viv­ing sib­ling is Cyn­thia Collins. Her other sis­ter, Jackie, is de­ceased. Ar­lene’s hus­band, trauma sur­geon Dr. Clif­ford Lakin, pre­de­ceased Ar­lene on Oc­to­ber 29, 2016.

The Lakins were Mi­ami Beach High alumni from classes 1961 and 1965. Ar­lene has her BA and MA from So­phie New­comb Col­lege at Tu­lane Univer­sity in New Or­leans. After they set­tled in Ft. Laud­erdale and had their 3 chil­dren, Ar­lene taught Span­ish at Broward Com­mu­nity Col­lege, re­ceived her Juris Doc­tor­ate from Nova South­east­ern Law School, and later founded Flor­ida’s Voice of De­vel­op­men­tal Dis­abil­i­ties.

Her sur­viv­ing chil­dren are Dr. Gre­gory (Kasey) Lakin, Cara (Jonathan) McCal­lis­ter, and Dou­glas Lakin, who re­sides at Ann Stork Cen­ter in Broward County. Ar­lene’s joy­ful first grand­child, Char­lotte McCal­lis­ter, was born on March 5th. Funeral ser­vices will be­gin at 2 PM at Tem­ple Bat Yam, 5151 N. E. 14 Ter­race, Ft. Laud­erdale, 33334. Burial ser­vice will be at 4 PM, Lake­side Ceme­tery, 10301 N. W. 25 Street, Mi­ami, 33172. Shiva will be at 7 PM at the Lakin res­i­dence in Ft. Laud­erdale on Sun­day and Mon­day.
