ARLENE HECHTER LAKIN, Attorney

Mrs. Arlene Hechter Lakin suddenly passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at age 71. Her parents were Estelle nee Parkman and George Hecther. Her eldest surviving sibling is Cynthia Collins. Her other sister, Jackie, is deceased. Arlene’s husband, trauma surgeon Dr. Clifford Lakin, predecease­d Arlene on October 29, 2016.

The Lakins were Miami Beach High alumni from classes 1961 and 1965. Arlene has her BA and MA from Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University in New Orleans. After they settled in Ft. Lauderdale and had their 3 children, Arlene taught Spanish at Broward Community College, received her Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeaste­rn Law School, and later founded Florida’s Voice of Developmen­tal Disabiliti­es.

Her surviving children are Dr. Gregory (Kasey) Lakin, Cara (Jonathan) McCalliste­r, and Douglas Lakin, who resides at Ann Stork Center in Broward County. Arlene’s joyful first grandchild, Charlotte McCalliste­r, was born on March 5th. Funeral services will begin at 2 PM at Temple Bat Yam, 5151 N. E. 14 Terrace, Ft. Lauderdale, 33334. Burial service will be at 4 PM, Lakeside Cemetery, 10301 N. W. 25 Street, Miami, 33172. Shiva will be at 7 PM at the Lakin residence in Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday and Monday.
