You too can live like a ‘starchitect’ — for $37,000 a month
Renowned architect’s oceanfront unit hits the market
A 1,905-square-foot unit at The Residences at W South Beach — the former home of “starchitect” Zaha Hadid — recently hit the market.
But you can’t buy it. It’s available for rent — at $37,000 per month. Renowned architect Hadid lived in the oceanfront unit while she was designing One Thousand Museum, a 62-story luxury condominium on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, according to David Pulley, director of luxury sales at Douglas Elliman Real Estate’s Sports & Entertainment Division in Miami Beach. That was her first and last residential project in the Western Hemisphere.
“Zaha was one of the most prolific architects of the modern day,” said Pulley, who holds the listing on the unit. “She was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Prize, and she’s received several other prestigious architectural awards.”
The Iraqi architect, who founded London-based Zaha Hadid Architects in 1979,
was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize (considered the Nobel Prize of architecture) in 2004 and died unexpectedly in 2016.
Her home, Units 728 and 730 at 2201 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach, were combined into one residence and sold in September 2018 to an investor for
$5.75 million, along with an adjoining one-bedroom, one-bath unit that is available separately, Pulley said. The combined units, which feature Hadad’s personal design, have two bedrooms and three baths.
“This is an opportunity for a very sophisticated prospective tenant,” Pulley said. “Anything that you would get in the architecture of one of her buildings you can now get in
your own home — all of her signature curves, all of her touches that made her who she was.”
The tenant will have access to all of the services and amenities of the W South Beach, including room service, the spa, beach, renowned restaurants, the gym and concierge. “The W South Beach is one of a kind,” Pulley said. “It’s the pinnacle of the South Beach lifestyle.”
