Wodapalooza workout festival is here to get you in shape
Event to bring in about 2,000 athletes competing in 40 exercises
Downtown Miami is once again invaded by bodybuilders and other really fit people this weekend.
They’re in town for the return of the Wodapalooza fitness festival (Wod stands for “Workout of the day”), which runs through today at Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd.
Launched in 2012, the event features about 2,000 athletes competing in 40 workouts from rope climbing and barbell lifts to ringmuscle ups. If the park looks like one giant CrossFit party, that’s because the fitness chain sanctioned the event last year as a qualifier for its annual championship games.
But for people who don’t want to lift or break a sweat, there are workshops, seminars and more than 150 booths about fitness and nutrition to inspire them.
Be on the look out for Tia-Claire Toomey, an Australian weightlifter and CrossFit Games champion, Camille Le-blanc Bazinet, a Canadian athlete who was the female winner of the 2014 CrossFit Games and Miami athlete and threetime Wodapalooza champion Noah Ohlsen.
Admission starts at $45 for a single day pass. Part of the proceeds will benefit Barbells for Boobs, a California-based non-profit group that works toward the early detection of breast cancer.
