The South Florida Institute on Aging, a nonprofit that creates planning and development strategies to deliver socio-economic support programs for South Florida seniors, has named Dionne Polite to its board of directors. Polite is AARP Florida’s director of state operations.

Christina M. Paul, a partner in the Miami office of law firm K&L Gates LLP, has been appointed to the executive board of The American Boat & Yacht Council, the only rule-making entity for building, designing, maintaining and repairing recreational boats in the country. The council also provides technical education, training, certification and professional development through the use of workshops, seminars and technician certification courses. 90 percent of boats on the water are built to the non-profit’s standards.

Kathleen Mason has joined the Arc Culinary team at Arc Broward, in the newly created role of sales and catering manager. Most recently, Mason was the director of catering for PGA National Resort & Spa in West Palm Beach.
Virgin Hotels in Miami named Owen Deignan as the director of food & beverage operations, and Denise Walker as the vice president of information technology. Also, Blake Smith was promoted, from executive director of entertainment to vice president of entertainment and brand partnerships.
Hilton Miami Downtown has appointed Nenad Novoselski as the property’s transient sales manager. Novoselski joined the organization in 2015 as a housekeeping supervisor. He was promoted to guest services supervisor, and then the position of catering and conventions services coordinator.

Pérez Art Museum Miami announced the appointment of new members elected to the museum’s board of trustees: Sylvia Benito, Sebastian Echavarria, Eric Johnson, and Simon Levine.
The nonprofit professional theater organization, Area Stage Company and Theatre Conservatory announced its board of directors Chairman Gustavo Membiela and Vice Chairman Sara Poses. Other new appointments include: Ligia del Pino, secretary; Vanessa Hyden, parent committee; Mona E. Markus, moving committee; Jill Martin, fundraising committee; and Howard Pita, board officer. ASC houses a professional theater company, a professional-level conservatory for young, aspiring performers; and a theater program for people with developmental disabilities who participate in the organization’s Inclusion Theatre Project. ITP sends specialized coaches to schools for students with disabilities, presents unified stage performances that are open to the public, and promotes understanding and appreciation of the artistic abilities of individuals with special needs.

The independent Oversight Board of volunteer professionals in Broward County made appointments to oversee the administration of funds collected from the approved penny surtax for transportation has been updated. The Appointing Authority reconvened to appoint a new representative, Dr. Consuelo D. Kelley, for the Resident Consumer of Public Transportation vacancy. Kelley is a professional with a legal and editorial background, and a regular user of Broward’s TOPS! Paratransit service. She will join the existing Oversight Board members at their first meeting on Feb. 14. The full slate of Oversight Board members is: Accounting: Shea Smith, director of audit and attest services, Berkowitz Pollack Brant Advisors and Accountants; Finance: Phil Allen, retired.
