Dorothy Hirschman Smeck

“Dot” Smeck, 98, of Plantation, FL, passed away of natural causes in hospice of Sunrise, FL. Daughter of Dr. Carl A. and Marguerette V. Hirschman of Indianapolis, IN, and spouse of Woodrow W. Smeck of Lancaster, OH, Dorothy lived a long, full life in many places, including Dayton, OH, Oakwood Park, IN, Kitchener, Canada, Kansas City, Lancaster, OH, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Plantation, FL. Dorothy graduated in
1942 from Purdue University and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Following graduation, she worked four years in the Chemicals and Plastics Research Laboratories at National Cash Register. In 1947, she joined the early ranks of TWA airline hostesses, serving meals complete with linen and silver while flying on Constellation L-749A aircraft. She was intelligent, beautiful, and humorous. Dorothy is survived by two nieces and three nephews and will be memorialized at Maple Grove Cemetery, alongside her husband, in Lancaster, OH.
