Jeffrey M. Wank, partner at Kelley Kronenberg, and Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law graduate, is 2019 chair of the board of directors for Legal Aid Service of Broward County and Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida. Good Samaritan Medical Center named Joseph Lopez-Cepero as chief nursing officer. Lopez-Cepero comes to Good Samaritan after working in the same position at Tenet hospital San Ramon Regional Medical Center, in San Ramon, Calif.
Dr. Jessica Lauren Bauer recently joined the practice of Conceptions Florida, a medical practice providing fertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization and intrauterine insemination, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and egg freezing, in Miramar.
Construction, development
R.E. McWhorter joined Boynton Beach-based LEBOLO Construction Management Inc. as director of business development, Florida and Latin America.
Jeffrey Williams was promoted from senior vice president of development to executive vice president of development and construction at Deerfield Beach-based Konover South LLC.
Kaufman Lynn Construction has named Todd Rogers as vice president of human resources, in its Delray Beach headquarters. Rogers was most recently with Moss and Associates in Fort Lauderdale, where he was the vice president of human resources.
The Altman Companies has promoted Derek Uhler to senior vice president of finance. Uhler previously held the vice president of finance for The Altman Companies after rejoining the company in February of 2016.

Avivit Ben-Aharon, founder and clinical director of Great Speech Inc., a Fort Lauderdale-based business providing online speech therapy nationwide, announced that the company has received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Development Center — Council of Florida, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
Professional development, leadership
Shuliang Jiao, professor of biomedical engineering at Florida International University, and whose research and technological innovations are helping prevent and cure blindness, has been named to the inaugural class of National Academy of Inventors Senior Members. This first class of NAI Senior Members is made up of faculty, scientists and administrators who have successfully patented licensed and commercialized technologies that have positively impacted society. They are also committed to advancing the inventive culture at their institutions, as well as mentoring and educating the next generation of inventors. As principal investigator for FIU’s Eye Imaging Lab, Jiao oversees the optical imaging technologies that are advancing the research and diagnosis of eye diseases that often lead to blindness, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Currently, Jiao holds seven patents — one of which was licensed to a leading ophthalmic technology development company — as well as three patent applications and several invention disclosures.

The CPA firm of Caler, Donten, Levine, Cohen, Porter & Veil P.A. launched its CDL Controller Services, designed to assist restaurants, real estate companies and small businesses with supervisory maintenance of their current accounting and bookkeeping practices, which will be headed by Victoria Rizzuto ,atax supervisor with the firm in West Palm Beach since 2010.

Milagro Foundation Inc., the nonprofit arts and education-focused after-school and summer camp program for at-risk children in Delray Beach, announced the following board of director officer positions for 2019: President, Kurt Knaus, vice president with PNC Bank; Treasurer, Silvia Evans, president of Palm Beach Accounting and Financial Service; and Secretary, Lisa Cody, vice president with TwinStar International. David Worthington , of Keter; Latoya Dixon, principal of Village Academy; Will Kennedy of DPR Construction; Alex Oliveira, of Prediq Media; Brad Straka of CreativeDrive; Nancy Singer and Joseph Sontz, community volunteers, are serving as members of the board of directors. Also, Milagro Foundation Inc. promoted Gina Harding to vice president of human resources and operations; Kendra Williams to senior director of education and innovation STARS program; and Jeaneen West to senior director of education and innovation for Junior & Teen Leadership programs. New appointments include: Louis Elosta, accountant; Julie Shapiro, marketing and special events associate director; and Kerline Luctamar, language arts teacher.
The Lord’s Place has appointed Keenyn McFarlane as chief financial officer and Anne Noble to chief advancement officer, responsible for all fundraising activities. The nonprofit agency’s mission is to break the cycle of homelessness in Palm Beach County.
Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County announced the launch of a new leadership development program, Mandel Leadership Institute, as well as its first set of leaders selected through an extensive application and interview process. This is one of only 10 communities around the country to offer this exclusive leadership program, designed for individuals who demonstrate the talent and desire for highcaliber training in advanced Jewish leadership. Jonathan Chane and Stacey Ellison have been named co-chairs. The first cohort includes: Dr. Peter R. The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU, part of Florida International University, announced that Amy Borman Somek has been appointed as the museum’s new director of development. Prior to joining the museum, Somek was the director of development at the Greater Miami Hebrew Academy.
Recognition
Food for the Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma has received The Max Hart Nonprofit Achievement Award that recognizes outstanding career achievements by a fundraising professional. The award, bestowed by the DMA Nonprofit Federation, is presented annually at the Washington Nonprofit Conference.
