Anti-Israel rant wrong

South Florida Sun-Sentinel (Sunday) - - Opinion -

Sarah Gertler’s anti-Israel rant is not only biased with confrontational language (Zionism created “an imperialist stronghold,” the U.S. provides resources to “violently oppress impoverished Palestinians”), but is plain wrong on history and facts.

While claiming that “Israel’s war of independence led to the Nakba, an invasion driving 700,000 Palestinians from their homes,” she neglects to inform that the “invasion” was carried out by five Arab states, who sought to destroy the nascent State of Israel, lawfully created by the United Nations.

Gertler neglects to inform that the “Israeli blockade,” for which “Palestinians in Gaza can’t afford even the gas to cook their food,” was jointly imposed with Egypt after Hamas, a terror organization that seeks to destroy Israel, took control of the Gaza Strip and ousted the legitimate Palestinian Authority.

Genuine criticism of Israel’s policies is fine, but not when it is based on falsehoods and misstatements.
