Key Biscayne home might float your boat
A luxury estate that featured on “Miami Vice” now has another claim to fame — at
$25 million, it’s the most expensive listed home on Key Biscayne, at least for now.
The 11,556-square-foot, two-story contemporary home sits on a half acre of prime land in prestigious Harbor Point.
The gated estate’s location at the tip of a peninsula on the west coast of Key Biscayne might be especially attractive to a boat owner.
“Open-bay homes on Key Biscayne offer beautiful views, but you can’t have a large yacht there because the water is too turbulent and the yacht would block your view,” said Bo Mastykaz, director of luxury sales at Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Miami, who holds the listing.
“This particular property is unique because it has both an open-bay view and a safe, protected harbor on the other side of the house that has the ability to dock a
160-foot yacht.”
The oceanfront mansion, which recently underwent a yearlong ground-up renovation, features seven bedrooms, eight full and one half baths, a gym, sauna and a hidden underground wine cellar. A 20-foot waterfall leads visitors from the driveway to the front door. Many of the materials used in the interior of the home were imported, such as the Italian cabinetry and Portuguese-limestone floors.
Outside, there’s an infinity-edge pool and Jacuzzi and over 5,000 square feet of outdoor terraces. A 172-foot deep-water private dock is large enough to accommodate a megayacht.
The home, at 28 Harbor Point, served as a backdrop for several episodes of “Miami Vice” in 1984.
According to public records, the current owner, Stig Wennerstrom, bought the property in February 1990 for $2.5 million. Mastykaz said he plans to build a waterfront home in the Boca Raton area.
Key Biscayne is an island village just across the Rickenbacker Causeway from Miami.
