Penthouse fit for an ambassador
Unit in Fort Lauderdale on the market for $4.7M
Sharon Day, the U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica and former co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, recently re-listed her 6,627-square-foot Fort Lauderdale penthouse for $4.7 million.
The four-bedroom, six-bath penthouse unit, on the 28th floor of the L’Hermitage condominium at 3100 N. Ocean Blvd., was previously listed by another brokerage for
$6.9 million, but the price was dropped and the unit relisted at a lower price after an appraisal, according to Sherri Pfefer, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate in Fort Lauderdale, who holds the listing.
“The property appraised in May 2018 for
$4.75 million, so we’re below market value,” said Pfefer. “The seller is motivated, and the unit is a bit dated. It’s an amazing space — it just needs someone with the right vision to make it their own.”
Day purchased the custom penthouse — which was actually created by having the developer combine three condominiums — in December 1997 for $1.655 million.
“The unit was designed by the developer for a lot of entertaining,” Pfefer said. “The walls were also designed to display artwork because the owner traveled around the world and brought back art.”
The condominium features six balconies, two offices, a guest wing with kitchenette, formal dining and living rooms and a large master suite with wet bar, Roman tub, shower, dual vanities and two walk-in closets. Included in the purchase are three parking spots and three air-conditioned storage
closets. It offers views to the north, west, south and southeast, Pfefer said.
L’Hermitage is an oceanfront condominium on 10 acres just north of Oakland Park Boulevard. It’s comprised of two towers and offers residents the use of two tennis courts, multiple pools, a café, concierge, valet and fitness center.
Day was sworn in as U.S. ambassador in September
2017 after working for the Republican Party for more than 20 years at the local, state and national level. She previously worked in the insurance and marketing industries. Pfefer said Day is selling the unit because she now resides in Costa Rica.
The unit should appeal to either a vacation-home buyer or primary resident, according to Pfefer. “It’s ideal as a vacation residence for a large family that has two or three generations,” she said. “With a
separate guest area in the rear of the unit that’s accessed by its own elevator, the space is very well divided for a large family.”
She added that because the unit is older, it might present a better value to a purchaser than new construction. “There’s no other penthouse that offers this square footage with these views at this price,” Pfefer said. “A comparable property in new construction would be priced about double what this is listed at.”
