Bowling for Bread raises record amount for children’s charities.

It was a lucky 13th year for Boca Helping Hands’ Bowling for Bread event at Strikes@BocaRaton, raising a record $16,000 that will go to local children’s charities.

More than 200 children who are served by the participat­ing charities signed up to bowl, according to organizers.

“This is one of favorite events every year,” Boca Helping Hands Executive Director Greg Hazle said in a statement. “We love the synergy and collaborat­ion amongst our charity partners, and we’re beyond thrilled that these amazing kids got to spend an afternoon simply having fun. That’s what this event is truly all about.”

The community-based nonprofit at 1500 NW First Court in Boca Raton provides provides food, medical and financial assistance to meet basic human needs as well as education, job training and guidance to create self-sufficienc­y.

Every year, Boca Helping Hands partners with children’s charities that will benefit from Bowling for Bread. This year they included: 4KIDS of South Florida, Inc.; Adopt a Family; American Associatio­n of Caregiving Youth; Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton; City House Delray; Family Promise of South Palm Beach County; Florence Fuller (East & West); HomeSafe; Place of Hope; PROPEL; Salvation Army; SOS Children’s Villages; Unicorn Children’s Foundation and Youth Activity Center Boca.

The Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce helped put on the fundraiser through its annual Boca Festival Days. The event sponsor was the Lee Pearlson Steinberg Foundation with First Citizens Bank serving as for-profit partner.

Among its services, Boca Helping Hands distribute­s more than 70,000 pantry bags each year at three Palm Beach County locations and serves over 55,000 hot meals annually, six days per week, according to the nonprofit. It also sends weekend meals home with elementary school students as part of its BHH Backpacks Program.
