DAVIE – Two men seemed to be having a lot of fun while shopping for sporting goods and clothing, but they may not be smiling and laughing when Davie police catch up with them. The twosome are suspected of robbing a woman at gunpoint and then shopping with her stolen credit card, investigators said.

The armed robbery happened about 5:15 p.m. Nov. 10 outside the Tower Shops plaza at 1904 S. University Drive. The victim was about to get out of her car in the parking lot when one of the men walked up, opened her car door and told her “don’t be scared.” But as he pressed a gun into her lap, a scuffle ensued, according to the police report. She broke a nail scratching him and he dropped a bracelet or necklace in her car, detectives said.

A couple of witnesses heard her screams and one man approached, but the gunman showed his weapon and said, “come any closer and I’ll blow your brains out,” police said.

Her designer purse, worth $185, was grabbed by the gunman who got into a waiting car and drove off, police said. A short time later the suspects went shopping at a nearby mall and spent about $700 using her card, investigators said.

The store’s surveillance video shows one man on a cellphone the whole time that the two of them are standing around the checkout counter, jostling and smiling. Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes either of the two subjects to call the Davie Police Department at 954-693-8200. Anonymous tips can also be called in to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or at browardcrimestoppers.org.
