AdventHealth donates $1M to onePULSE
Gift will go to museum, memorial and $15K annual scholarship
AdventHealth is donating $1 million to help build the National Pulse Memorial & Museum and pay for a yearly $15,000 scholarship to a recipient chosen by the onePULSE Foundation, the health care company announced Tuesday.
More than a dozen victims of the June 12, 2016, attack at Pulse nightclub were treated at AdventHealth Orlando, and chaplains for the hospital met with victims’ loved ones at a family support center in the hours, days and weeks afterward.
“AdventHealth is a faithbased organization committed to whole-person care in our community, which includes treating body, mind and spirit,” said Daryl Tol, president and CEO of AdventHealth’s Central Florida division. “Part of that commitment is healing broken hearts…Our hope is this memorial will foster the healing process and inspire a spirit of love and compassion.”
The nonprofit onePULSE Foundation — established to honor the 49 people killed, the 68 seriously wounded and the dozens of rescuers — has now raised $18 million toward building the museum and memorial and establishing 49 annual scholarships, each in a field related to the interests, careers or aspirations of one of the victims.
The $1 million gift from AdventHealth will be paid over three years and include funds for onePULSE Academy — a diversity and inclusion curriculum the museum plans to use in schools and corporate environments.
It also includes at least three years worth of scholarships to its AdventHealth University, which offers associate, bachelor’s and graduate degrees in a range of health professions.
Barbara Poma, CEO of the onePULSE Foundation, said her organization is “extremely grateful” for the hospital company’s contribution.
“Donations like this are critical to help us fulfill our mission, and we appreciate their leadership in inspiring others to give,” she said.
