Trump rallies at South Florida summit
Addressed conservative students Saturday at Turning Point USA
President Donald Trump kicked off his South Florida holiday getaway by bragging about the economy, trashing “Crazy Nancy” and lamenting that windmills are killing birds.
Trump, who spoke for just over an hour, addressed thousands of conservative students Saturday at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in West Palm Beach. The talk radio host Rush Limbaugh introduced the president, telling Trump’s young supporters that “climate change is a hoax.”
Trump hit his familiar talking points, talking about low unemployment, Space Force and getting people to “say Merry Christmas again.” He’s expected to spend the holidays at his nearby Mar-a-Lago estate.
During his speech, Trump took shots at the Democrats, who he said pushed a “baseless impeachment” against him. He blasted “Crazy Nancy,” referring to Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He dismissed Republican “never Trumpers,” calling them “the dumbest human beings on Earth.”
He said his enemies will fail to stop him from winning reelection next year.
“They are losing,” Trump said. “We are winning, and we are succeeding in our mission to make America great again.”
In Trump fashion, the president veered into several asides, including his stance on windmills. Bald eagles have been struck by their blades, Trump told the crowd.
“You want to see a bird graveyard ... go under a windmill,” he said.
Founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk, Turning Point USA says it has a presence on 1,500 campuses across the country.
The four-day conference features a who’s who lineup of conservatives, including Fox News personality Sean Hannity, former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer.
During his speech Thursday, Giuliani railed against what he says is a conspiracy targeting him that involves the U.S. House of Representatives, the media and law enforcement. He claimed that Democrats want to “execute” him and are trying to “destroy the Constitution.”
About 52% of Americans under the age of 30 support the president’s impeachment and removal from office, according to a national poll released in November by the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Cooper Stephens, 18, is a student backing Trump. He drove 12 hours from North Carolina to attend the conference.
“There is a silent majority,” he said, while wearing a Trump 2020 flag as a cape. “There are a lot of
people who don’t believe in the leftist ideology.”
Trump landed Friday night at Palm Beach International
Airport. Flight restrictions are in effect through Jan. 6. His agenda includes a rally in Miami on Jan. 3 to rally his evangelical Christian supporters.
Trump assured the students their future is bright.
“There has never been a better time to be young and to be American,” he said.
