Longtime UM commit Moise now opts for Coastal Carolina

- By David Furones

Former Chaminade-Madonna defensive tackle and longtime Miami Hurricanes commit Willie Moise announced Friday afternoon he is bound for Coastal Carolina.

Moise tweeted an image of himself in a Coastal Carolina uniform with “COMMITTED” across the center.

Moise was the one member of UM’s 2020 recruiting class that had yet to sign his letter of intent with the Hurricanes by national signing day in February. His academic situation was the roadblock for him being unable to sign with Miami, according to a 247 Sports report at the time.

Moise initially committed to the Hurricanes on March 1, 2018, between his sophomore and junior seasons of high school. He was a Sun Sentinel All-County second-team selection as an offensive lineman as a sophomore.

Switching to defensive tackle as a junior, he was a first-team all-county choice after collecting 65 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss and nine sacks in 2018. Moise played an integral role on those back-to-back state championship-winning Chaminade teams.

The Lions won a third consecutive title this past fall, but Moise, who was a preseason Super 11 selection in Broward County, had his senior season cut short due to surgery on an injured shoulder. He transferred to Orlando Edgewater to finish out high school academically.

Previously a four-star recruit, Moise was tabbed a three-star prospect in the final 247 Sports composite rankings, which labeled him as the nation’s No. 45-ranked defensive tackle prospect.

Despite losing Moise, the Hurricanes signed 21 recruits in the 2020 class, along with five transfers. Fourteen of the recruits enrolled early for the spring semester.
