HANDY (Helping Abused Neglected Disadvantaged Youth) announced new board members for its board of directors and promoted current board members to new positions. Joining the board are Melissa Shiff, vice president of Shiff Construction & Development; Adam Spiegel, managing principal of MBAF Certified Public Accountants and Advisors; Dan Wobby, chief strategy officer at Moss & Associates; and Marsha Levy, Guardian ad Litem and community advocate, to serve as Director Emeritus. Updates to the Officers of the board of directors include Dan Young, partner of B2B CFO to remain board chair; Philip DeBiasi, general manager and executive vice president of Advocate Home Care Services to remain vice chair elect and chair of program development; Kathleen Thomsen, community advocate, as vice chair fund development and expansion; and Teri Kaye, CPA, tax services leader/partner at Daszkal Bolton, as board secretary.
The Promise Fund of Florida has elected two new members to its board of directors: Dr. Debra A. Schwinn, incoming president of Palm Beach Atlantic University and Michael Greenwald. Greenwald is director at Tiedemann Advisors, and managing director at Tiedemann-Constantia.
The Community Foundation of Broward Board of Directors announced Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., as the Community Foundation’s new president, chief executive officer. She was previously vice president of advancement and community relations since 2013 at Nova Southeastern University.
Cultural
The National Parks Service, in conjunction with the National Parks Arts Foundation, has selected two Lake Worth Beach artists, Shannon Torrence and Carl Stoveland, to be artists in residence on Loggerhead Key in Dry Tortugas National Park in September 2020. The residency requires a pair of artists due to the remote location. The artists will bring all the supplies they will need for the one-month stay on the 40-acre island. Torrence and Stoveland, collectively called the Flying Tortuga Brothers, plan to make a documentary film of their experiences living on Loggerhead Key while they create art, entirely off the grid, with no internet access or cellphone coverage. Torrence is a landscape and seascape painter focused mainly on Florida subjects. Stoveland is a photographer and multimedia artist.

Miami attorney Dori Foster-Morales was sworn in as the Florida Bar’s 72nd president and Jacksonville attorney Michael G. Tanner became presidentelect during the virtual 2020 Annual Florida Bar Convention. Foster-Morales is the managing partner of Foster-Morales Sockel-Stone LLC, and exclusively practices in the area of marital and family law. She began her career at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where she worked both in Washington, D.C., and New York City. When she returned to her hometown, she worked as an Assistant State Attorney for the Miami Dade State Attorney’s Office.

Jorge Gonzalez, vice chairman and chief executive officer of City National Bank of Florida, has joined the board of directors of Nicklaus Children’s Health System, parent organization of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, in Miami.
Construction
Moss Construction has named Scott Moss, one of the company’s founders, as chief executive officer. A 30-year veteran of the construction industry, Moss worked as project manager with Centex construction after graduating from college. Bob Moss, who stepped down as CEO, will continue to serve as chairman and founder. The Moss family started the Construction firm in 2004.

Palmer Trinity School announced the addition of Dave Lanham as athletic director. Prior to joining Palmer Trinity, Lanham spent five years as the at Severna Park High School in Severna Park, Md.
Marine
The Marine Industries Association of South Florida announced its newly elected board members and annual award winners at its annual meeting. Officers include: Doug West, president of Lauderdale Marine Center and chairman of the MIASF board of directors; Vice Chairman Jimmie Harrison of Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller; Secretary/Treasurer James Brewer of Derecktor Shipyards; Immediate Past Chairman Jim Naugle of Lauderdale Boatyard. New board members are Julie Berry of Marina Investments Group Stiles Realty; Tyler Chappell of the Chappell Group; Michael Kelly of Bradford Marine; and Glenn Allen of Fleet Miami. Dean DuToit of National Marine Suppliers and Andrew Doole of Informa Markets U.S. Boat Shows were reelected to the board. Award winners were also announced and included Award of Excellence Winners Bob Crawford, director of Atlantic Technical College, and Bill Walker, president of Water Taxi. Advocacy awards were presented to U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Ben Sorensen, and U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port Jo-Ann Burdian. The Golden Anchor Award, which recognizes a lifetime achievement for work in the marine industry, was presented to MIASF industry liaison, Patience Cohn. Additionally, the Frank Herhold Memorial Scholarship was presented to Marissa Mehlrose, who is in the second year of her marine science master’s program at Nova Southeastern University, where she is studying the shortfin Mako shark population.
