Emergency grant lets parents’ center establish food bank
The Parent’s Information & Resource Center in Pompano Beach recently added a new food bank and expanded its mental health services through a $125,000 emergency grant from the Community Foundation of Broward.
With the emergency relief grant, the center will be able to continue psychiatric evaluations, medication management and counseling for individuals in need. During the pandemic, nearly half of the 700 children and adults receiving mental health services lost benefits due to the coronavirus crisis.
In addition to containing services, the nonprofit organization also launched a food bank while providing other forms of relief, such as rent and utility assistance.
Food and counseling services are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the PIRC Pompano Beach location, 817 N. Dixie Highway.
“The Community Foundation is here to sustain and grow the vital community services that PIRC and other local nonprofits deliver during this crisis and beyond,” Sheri Brown, the foundation’s vice president of community impact, said in a statement.
Since the start of the pandemic, the Community Foundation of Broward has provided nearly $2 million in immediate COVID-19 relief, including new grants as well as easing restrictions on existing grants. This allows nonprofits to change direction and address the residents’ most dire needs.
