Elementary school students in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach who are food insecure will receive weekend meals for the remainder of the year through a partnership with Boca Helping Hands, a community nonprofit that provides food, medical and financial assistance aswell as education, job training and guidance.

The BHH Backpacks Programwill allow about 350 children to have meals at home when they leave school on Fridays.

During the pandemic, each child now brings home a “backpack in a box” each Friday that includes six meals, three snacks, two juice boxes and two shelf-stable milk.

“Without this help, these children might not have enough to eat over the weekend. We’re pleased to be able to provide these meals,” Greg Hazle, executive director of Boca Helping Hands, said in a statement.

According to the organization, it distributes 80,000 pantry bags annually at four locations in Palm Beach County and serves over 70,000 hot meals six days aweek every year.
