Police: Truck driver arrested in fatal DUI hit-and-run
A Lake Worth man has been arrested following the death of a bicyclist in a hit-and-run crash in Palm Springs on Thanksgiving, the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office said.
Victor Pacheco, 25, is facing charges that include DUI causing death, failing to stop and remain at a crash involving death., and driving without a valid license. He was jailed Friday on bonds totaling $300,000, records show.
According to the arrest report, Pacheco struck the bicyclist from behind while both were traveling west in the 2700 block of Second Avenue North about 6 p.m. Thursday.
The bicyclist landed on the hood of the pickup truck before hitting the pavement. A witness followed the truck and called 911. Palm Springs police conducted a traffic stop and arrested Pacheco, the report stated.
The identity of the bicyclist is unknown. Investigators are asking anyone with information concerning the identity of the bicyclist to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator D.S. Schneider at 561-681-4542 or schneiderd@pbso.org.
