Marlins promote Triple-A manager to first-base coach

Club makes several other promotions

On the heels of Kim Ng taking over as their new general manager, the Miami Marlins made several promotions throughout the organizati­on in Friday.

The Marlins promoted Triple-A manager Keith Johnson to become the firstbase coach on manager Don Mattingly’s major-league coaching staff.

Entering his third year with theMarlins organizati­on, Johnson spent the past two seasons serving as the club’s Triple-A manager. Representi­ng the Marlins at the Arizona Fall League in 2019, the former fourthroun­dpick (1992) of the Los Angeles Dodgers managed the Salt River Rafters to an AFLchampio­nship.

Before coming to the Marlins, Johnson — a University of Pacific product— worked14ye­ars in the LosAngeles playerdeve­lopment system, earning two Managerof theYear awards.

Also Friday, theMarlins promoted Lee Tressel, who spent the last two seasons as the team’s rehab strength and conditioni­ng coordinato­r, to serve as its major-league strength and conditioni­ng coach.

The Marlins have also promoted Dan Greenlee to assistant general manager, Adrian Lorenzo to the director of baseball operations and Joey Nero to assistant director of baseball operations
