1 killed, 1 rescued after Porsche crashes in Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE — A white 2018 Porsche coupé driving at a “high rate of speed” crashed into a pole, bursting into flames, Saturday morning. Two witnesses rushed to rescue the people inside andwere able to pull one fromthe engulfed car, butwere unable toget to the second person, police say.
The car crashed just after midnight near the intersection of Northeast Sixth Street andNortheast ThirdAvenue in Fort Lauderdale just after midnight Saturday, near Burgerhive and Peter FeldmanPark.
“An eye witness observed the incident and ran to the fully engulfedvehicle,” accordingtoFort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Sgt. Deanna Greenlaw. “He and an unknownwitness, wholeft prior to police arrival, were able to remove one of the occupants of the fully engulfedvehicle. Duetotheintense flames, they were unable to safely gain access to the other occupant.”
The person removed from the car was taken to Broward Health Medical Centerwith life-threatening injuries. Police did not immediately identify either occupant of the car or the witness.
Investigators are currently searching for additionalwitnesses andsurveillance camera footageof the crash.
