‘Bark and Browse’ Brain Bowl to benefit Alzheimer’s research
Introducing a new format, the Boca Raton Brain Bowl will return for its seventh year on Sunday, Feb. 28 at Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, 20405 Amphitheater Circle, in Boca Raton.
Instead of a luncheon at the Boca West Country Club, the Brain Bowl will continue its mission in helping end Alzheimer’s and other neurocognitive diseases and disorders at an outdoor location, hoping to minimize the potential risk of COVID-19 while providing a new twist to the event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to bring their furry friends along with them as they shop through over 50 vendors at this year’s “Bark and Browse” event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person.
“Instead of doing something at the Boca West Country Club, like we always have done, we are reinventing ourselves and we’re having it outdoors to try to minimize the risk of COVID,” Brain Bowl president and founder Pamela Higer-Polani said. “We’re reinventing ourselves this year because we still want to get the message out about what’s going on with Alzheimer’s, dementia and Parkinson’s.
“We actually have a little bit more than 50 vendors, a lot of which are pet related,” she said. “But, we have a wide range... Alzheimer’s Association to different doctors who are doing leading research with Alzheimer’s, dementia and Parkinson’s to financial planners, real estate. Lot’s of different community resources.”
Higer-Polani said the event can also help vendors who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“People will have the chance to see vendors who have not really had an opportunity in the several months to show what they sell,” she said. “We’re hoping to not just help Alzheimer’s but also just help our community financially... We’re not taking any of the proceeds from them. We told vendors it’s a small price to have the space. We want you to make money.”
There will also a DJ, a selfie pet station and a goodie bag upon arrival. With social distancing measures in place, attendees are encouraged to wear a face mask throughout the event. Pets are welcome.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s for Boca Raton.
