A milestone for Muslims

-

It has been a long road for The Honorable Zahid Quraishi, but he has made history in one of the most distinguished and respected seats of office in our land.

Judge Quraishi is the first American Muslim to be appointed to the federal bench and the first Asian-American to serve in that role in New Jersey. His career includes serving in the Army Judge Advocate General Corps from 2003-07. During this time he was stationed in Germany and deployed to Iraq twice in support of the Iraq War. He went on to serve as an assistant U.S. attorney and as a U.S. magistrate judge from 2019-21. These exceptional achievements have brought him to this great place of honor. However, all Americans can be proud.

Judge Quraishi’s confirmation by the Senate reflects a complex dialogue between America and American Muslims. It shows that America sees us as Americans and it validates the perspectives and values that we contribute to the fabric of America. It signifies that the American dream is alive and well and thriving for people of all creeds, ethnicities and races. This is truly the land of opportunity.

When Judge Quraishi takes the oath of office, he will make a promise to all Americans to faithfully and impartially discharge and perform the duties granted to him by the Constitution and laws of the United States. He will also set the bar for American Muslims who will follow in his footsteps, which carries great responsibility. I look forward to the privilege of watching him execute his duties honorably.
