Sunrise man accused of impersonating officer again

- By Chris Perkins

SUNRISE — A Sunrise man is accused of impersonating a sheriff ’s deputy, arguing with a fellow bank customer in a drive-thru lane, and then getting in his car and trying to hit the person, according to deputies.

It’s not the first time Christopher David Hage, 50, has been accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer, according to Assistant State Attorney Eric Linder.

Hage’s arrest report in the most recent incident stated that he allegedly drove his 2015 Audi A3 “in a careless manner” to the Regions Bank at 10001 W. Oakland Park Blvd. on Jan. 21.

Once in the drive-thru lane, Hage, a self-employed contractor, began honking his horn and yelling obscenities at the car ahead of him in line, the sheriff ’s report said. An argument ensued and all three people involved — Hage, the driver of the car ahead of him, and the passenger in the car ahead of him — got out of their cars.

At one point during that disagreement, Hage claimed to work for the sheriff’s office and seemed to flash a badge in his wallet, the arrest report stated.

One of the people in the car ahead of Hage used her cellphone to take pictures and record the episode. The arrest report said Hage can be seen in the video standing by his car and holding his wallet, but no badge can be seen.

Eventually, Hage got back in his car and accelerated in an attempt to hit the other driver, the arrest report alleged, going on to say Hage then drove away.

Hage was previously arrested in January 2020 on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, stalking, and possession of cocaine. He was accused of stalking an ex-girlfriend and getting into a fight with her ex-husband.

“I have great concern community safety concerns with regard to Mr. Hage considering the nature of the charges he’s already out on, and two similar incidents where he randomly threatened people while impersonating a law enforcement officer,” Linder said.

For the most recent incident, Hage is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and two counts of impersonating a law enforcement officer. He is being held at the main jail on a $17,000 bond.
