Mary was 89 years old and lived a full life with her voracious love of reading, weekly bridge with dear friends, and her enthusiasm for all sports. She had many new and long-term friends at John Knox Village where she lived for 11 years, and where she was honored for her volunteer work on April 2017.

Mary met her husband Jerry Davis Moore on a blind date. It was love at first sight as she called her Mother that evening and said, “I have just met the man I am going to marry.” They were married December 21, 1954 and had four incredible children: Laura Moore Tanne (Fred), Richard Davis Moore (Patty), Linda Moore Blackerby (Ed) and John Davis Moore (Mary Lynn). She also has four beautiful Grandchildren: Brandon W.D. Blackerby, Carson Davis Moore, Chloe Catherine Moore and Alexandria Laura Moore.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, her brothers William Oscar Burgess, Ellis Floyd Burgess, Francis Richard Burgess and her sisters Patsy Mae Burgess Walker and Mamie Juanita Burgess Thrower. Mary’s is survived by John Ross Burgess Jr., Donald Hugh Burgess and Linda Ruth Burgess Vey Moore.

Mary was very involved with The First Presbyterian Church of Lighthouse Point, Florida since 1963 along with her husband who was a deacon, an elder and a choir member. She had an amazing green thumb and was a member of The Garden Club. Mary was also very proud to be part of the Daughters of the American Revolution doing extensive research on her family’s history.

Mother Mary was an amazing woman who until the end did it her way. She was strong, loving, resilient, compassionate, intelligent, courageous and kind. She will be forever missed.
