Joan Culbertson Scott, age 89, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida died Tuesday morning, June 8, in a skilled nursing facility in Pompano Beach, Florida. Joan was born in Natick, Massachuse­tts on October 28, 1931. She worked as an x-ray technician prior to marrying Norman L. Scott in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1958. She and Norman moved to Glenview, Illinois in 1959. Their son, Douglas Jay Scott, was born in 1962. In

1966, Norman founded the Consulting Engineers Group (CEG), which he led for many decades. To this day, CEG continues to provide consulting services to the precast / prestresse­d concrete industry world wide. Joan played a major supporting role in establishi­ng and promoting CEG, which now has offices in Chicago, Illinois; San Antonio, Texas; Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico; and Longwood, Florida. Both Joan and Norm were avid, competitiv­e tennis players and golfers. They shared a love for the sea; making Florida their permanent home in the mid 1990’s.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband who died in

2013. She is survived by their son, Douglas Jay Scott; her sister, Jean Culbertson Young; and two nieces: Rebecca Young (Cecil O’Neal) and Deborah Young. A celebratio­n of her life will take place in Fort Lauderdale in the coming months.
