Massive plans for Lantana construction site

Chick-fil-A, Wawa and more on tap; Aldi already in place

This real-estate feature from the South Florida Sun Sentinel highlights the latest plans for new construction as demand rises for more housing, offices and stores across the region. You can submit questions by emailing build ings@sunsentinel.com, if you’re wondering about “what’s being built there?” in your community. Here’s one of the latest projects.

The location? 1233 W. Lantana Road in Lantana, just east of Interstate 95.

What’s planned? Located on a massive 73-acre property, Water Tower Commons was envisioned as Lantana’s “own City Place,” then-Mayor David Stewart said in 2016 referring to the popular mixed-use development in downtown West Palm Beach. But since being announced in 2014, development has moved at a snail’s pace with various delays and construction still on-going in many areas.

Two luxury apartments complexes, Oceanside Lantana and Manor Lantana, however, have opened within the past two years and an Aldi grocery store was finished in 2021.

A Wawa gas station and a Chick-fil-A restaurant are currently under construction on the site and are expected to be finished in nine to 12 months, Ken Endelson of Kenco Communities said. Additionally, Dunkin’ Donuts has signed a lease at Water Tower Commons and several other businesses will be announced in the future, Endelson said.

Seeing demand: With the housing market continuing to be red-hot, the demand for luxury products remains high in Palm Beach County. Oceanside Lantana features 360 units, while Manor Lantana has 348. In addition to studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, Manor Lantana also offers larger villas with private garages that are “catered to a kind of renter than is looking for something more comparable to a single-family home,” said David Hernandez, development manager at The Related Group.

Prices at Manor Lantana range from more than $2,000 a month for

648-square-foot studio apartments to $3,769 a month for a three-bedroom, two-bathroom villa at 1,692 square feet, according to the complex’s website. Oceanside Lantana has listings from approximately $1,800 a month to $3,500 a month on its website.

Hernandez said said the location of the project was especially appealing because it’s “so close to such a high-traffic corridor with proximity to the beach and being within 10-15 minutes of West Palm Beach, Delray Beach and Boynton.

“We thought it was a market that still had a lot of growth potential and had a lot to offer around it,” Hernandez said. “We thought it was a good untapped sector.”
