Deutch takes to Twitter to deny claims Moskowitz supports DeSantis or Trump
Congressman Ted Deutch emphatically on Friday knocked down the charge that congressional candidate Jared Moskowitz is a supporter of Gov. Ron DeSantis or former President Donald Trump.
Deutch didn’t name them, but his Twitter thread was in effect calling out two Moskowitz opponents in the Aug. 23 congressional primary in the 23rd Congressional district in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
The DeSantis-Trump theme has been central to Ben Sorensen’s campaign, and it has more recently been picked up by Hava Holzhauer.
The three are among six candidates seeking to succeed Deutch. He’s not running for re-election; on Oct. 1, he becomes CEO of the American Jewish
Committee.
“Suggesting that Jared Moskowitz is a supporter of Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis or their policies is unfair and untrue. Jared is a lifelong Democrat fighting for Democratic values. I hope the campaign focuses on ideas needed to make our community and world safer & more prosperous,” Deutch wrote.
“Unfortunately, there have been political attacks which have eclipsed the important conversation that should be front and center — the debate about gun violence prevention, helping working families, protecting access to abortion and saving the planet,” he added.
Moskowitz is a former Democratic state legislator from northwest Broward and former Parkland city commissioner. He’s a former state emergency management agency director, appointed by DeSantis, and the governor also appointed him to fill a vacancy on the Broward County Commission. Deutch’s tweets came hours after Sorensen, a Fort Lauderdale city commissioner, announced he was endorsed by the political action committee run by former U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Pa. (not the former Florida U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy).
Murphy in a statement echoed the candidate’s theme about Moskowitz: “Ben Sorensen is a proven fighter who Democrats can count on to work for them — not Ron DeSantis.”
