Supply drives and giveaways in Broward County

While summer is still in full swing, parents are preparing for the upcoming school year as they expect to face higher costs for all of the essential supplies their children will need to head back into the classroom. School starts Aug. 16 in Broward County. Organizati­ons throughout South Florida are here to help by collecting and distributi­ng supplies at upcoming events.

Applebee’s Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive

is collecting donations throughj Aug. 7 at the Margate restaurant, 5377 W. Atlantic Blvd. The supplies will be used to “Stuff the Bus”parked outside of the Doherty-owned Applebee’s location on Aug. 5 and 6. Also on Aug. 6, Applebee’s will host a breakfast “Flapjack Fundraiser” from 8-10 a.m. Tickets will be available for purchase for $10. All of the proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to The Kappa Foundation of Pompano. Then from 11 a.m.—11 p.m., Applebee’s will host a Dining to Donate initiative with 10% of sales from the day (excludes alcohol and gift card sales) also being donated to The Kappa Foundation of Pompano.

Sawgrass Mills Back-ToSchool Denim Campaign

is collaborat­ing with Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and Women in Distress to collect denim-exclusive clothing to be recycled. Through Aug. 7, Sawgrass Mills customers can contribute any type of denim apparel items to the Do Good with Denim drive: jeans, jackets, shirts, skirts and more. The first 200 shoppers who donate will receive a $20 gift card toward a purchase of new denim apparel at select stores including Levi’s Outlet, Polo Ralph Lauren, Lucky Brand Outlet, 7 for all Mankind, and more. All customers will receive a free coupon book with savings at over 100 stores with their donation. All donated denim products will be collected and delivered to The Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and Women in Distress to support families in need. is a donation drive to go toward items needed to kick off the 2022-2023 school year at the center, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with developmen­tal disabiliti­es. Broward Education Foundation School Supply Drive

is helping under-resourced children in Title I schools in Broward County. Gather school supplies at your organizati­on, then either drop off the collection at Broward Education Foundation School Supply Center, 2300 W. City of Sunrise Back to School Round-Up

is a free end-of-summer celebratio­n with refreshmen­ts, rides and games from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Sunrise Civic Center, 10610 W.
