Teacher training matters

Another great idea from Gov. DeSantis! Put retired first responders in classrooms, give them a $4,000 bonus and maybe another $1,000, depending on what they teach. They need a bachelor’s degree but no education classes. Why? DeSantis said he’s “very underwhelmed by it.” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco is very happy about first responders in classrooms. To paraphrase, they can talk about firefighters, overdoses, law enforcement and school violence. Is this the new school curriculum?

Standing in front of a classroom doesn’t make you a teacher. Education and training provide the skills necessary to be successful in your chosen career.
