City must get tougher with vacation rentals

-

I live in a Plantation neighborhood with serious concerns over lack of enforcement of city ordinances on short-term rentals.

On my street, two short-term rentals continually flout city ordinances by advertising occupancy of up to 12 people when ordinances limit them to 8. I’ve spoken with Mayor Lynn Stoner and those responsible for such enforcement within the city. Nothing deters this bad conduct by shortterm rental owners. It appears to me that those responsible for regulation have failed.

My home was subject to an attempted burglary by a short-term renter, illegal drug use, excessive noise and on-street parking. My next-door neighbor was a victim of an occupied burglary by rental guests while the mother and her two young daughters were home. Police reports will verify this. When will Plantation enforce its ordinance on short-term rentals? If the city won’t do anything, when will you repeal the ordinances so we’re not just kidding ourselves?
