Stoking fear of immigrants for political gain

Re: With hate groups on the rise, state leaders must set example | Opinion

I join state Sen. Tina Polsky of Boca Raton in being very concerned about the deepening racism, homophobia and antisemitism in Florida.

Republicans use immigrants the way Hitler used Jews — as scapegoats for legitimate problems by stirring fears that they will take away your jobs, they will take away your country, and they are rapists and murderers.

I don’t want uncontrolled immigration. Congress must enact equitable immigration reform. Republicans have no incentive to join Democrats to solve this problem. Stoking fear of immigrants is what gets them elected.

Trump and Trump wannabes like Gov. Ron DeSantis, with their fear-mongering, encourage hostility of Americans toward people who for the most part come here for a chance at a better life as my parents and their parents did. The result is a surge in hate crimes. It feels like 1939 again.
