As hearings end, what to do with Trump

-

I just watched the last of the Jan. 6th hearings. It was eye-opening to say the least.

The committee did an outstanding job laying out the facts and truth about what happened and the events that preceded the insurrection. That Trump was culpable is not in dispute, at least not by citizens who believe in truth and democracy. It’s a shame that most Republicans and Trumpsters probably never tuned in, citing the usual hyperbole about them being one-sided or a witch hunt or fake news.

If they had watched, they would have discovered that all the damning testimony was primarily provided by those Republicans (under oath) closest to Trump in the White House. It gives me no pleasure in stating that what Trump did was much worse than what Nixon committed.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in political science with minors in diplomacy and foreign affairs and history. It’s readily apparent that Trump could care less about democracy. He’s an autocrat in every sense. That’s why he did everything in his power to remain president (or dictator) and disregard the U.S. Constitution. His inaction on Jan. 6 was reprehensible. He definitely failed to uphold his constitutional duties.

Trump employed many of the same tactics as Hitler: Tell a lie often enough, people will believe it and accept it. Also, you need a propaganda conduit to spread lies. Hitler had Goebbels; Trump had and has Fox News and Republican congressmen, senators and governors. To this day, Trump continues to lie and spread disinformation. He remains a threat to our precious democracy.

I sincerely hope that Trump will someday soon face criminal charges and go to jail for the unconstitutional actions he engaged in. Only time will tell.
