Michael Joseph McNerney

-

Michael “Mike” Joseph McNerney peacefully passed away surrounded by his

family on October 21, 2022 from complications due to dementia.

Mike was born April 15, 1948 in Washington, DC to Mary Jane (Humphries) and Arthur Thomas McNerney. He graduated from St. John’s College High School before moving to Gainesville, FL to attend the University of Florida and earn his Bachelors in Finance and Juris Doctorate. He and former spouse Mia McNerney moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1973 where they

raised three children, Mike, Monica and Mary. He was the proud grandfather of Mike’s daughter Ruby and Monica’s sons, Leo and Eli. In 2009 Mike married Connie (Doyle) Loewenthal. For 17 years, they shared the joy of being together, dancing, playing tennis and ping pong, and being with friends and family.

Mike was known for his kindness, quick wit, negotiation skills and always having “a plan” for everything. He was happiest when spending time with his big Irish family including siblings: Greg (deceased), Patrick (deceased), Louise, Kathleen, Sharon, Sheila, Kevin and Robert, many cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Mike co-founded a successful law firm in Ft. Lauderdale and had a long career in business litigation. He was dedicated to his work, enjoyed mentoring younger lawyers, helped to break barriers in the legal field and was very involved with The Florida Bar. Mike also enjoyed being active in his community through organizations such as Leadership Broward and The Bonnet House, where he volunteered as legal counsel and board chair. He was a passionate Florida Gator fan and stayed very involved with the University of Florida for many years through leadership roles with the Alumni Association, Blue Key, UF Foundation Board, College

of Law and Broward County Gator Club. He truly loved his work and was proud of his positive impact in the

community.

Mike will be dearly missed by those who love him. He will forever remind us all of the importance of family.

A memorial mass will be held at 12pm on November 12, 2022 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd St, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301.
