The reality of President Joe Biden

-

President Biden shows his age. He stumbles over words. He does not hide his weaknesses. He uses humble phrases (“Come on, man!”)

He commuted to work on a train. His wife Jill still works. His family knows triumph and tragedy, life and death, a sense of hope, finding love again. He comes to us as plain Joe. He’s no superhero. Like us, he could die tomorrow. He has good intentions, which recalls Sen. Lindsay Graham’s remark: “If you don’t like Joe Biden, then there’s something wrong with you.”

Superheroes descend from above, declaring, “Only I can save us.” Living in a mansion, marrying a supermodel, the superhero becomes privilege incarnate. He commands deference; demands loyalty. Everything is designed to enhance his own image. He demands perfection from those serving him, yet accepts no responsibility for his own errors. (Sound familiar?)

If we substitute image for reality, then give us fictional narratives. But if we choose reality, then, perhaps, a nice guy with good intentions who shares our common frailties and does the best he can is much more sane.
