Virginia “Ginny” Horn

-

Virginia “Ginny” Horn, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1 at The Woodlands in John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, Florida. Ginny was born on February 14, 1932 (Valentine’s Day - of course!) to Ross and Kathleen “Kitty” Baird in Michigan City, Indiana. Ginny graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City in 1950 and then Ball State Teacher’s College, later Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana in 1953, where she was a Chi Omega. Ginny taught kindergarten and first grade in Michigan City before moving to Fort Lauderdale in 1966 where she taught school for another 29 years until her retirement. Ginny loved teaching and absolutely loved her young students! Ginny was meant to be a teacher! She was also meant to be a “mom” and she devoted her life to her three sons. In return, they loved her deeply and often boasted that, in spite of what others may claim, they had the best Mom ever. Ginny was compassionate, caring, outgoing, funny, loving, and truly enjoyed being around people as evidenced by her, oh, so numerous, devoted friends. She was an avid reader and bridge player. Ginny was a devoted and faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and was a loyal member and attendee of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale until her final few years. She and her sister, Marilyn Milligan, were as thick as buttermilk and the very, very best of friends. Ginny was simply someone you couldn’t help but want to be around. Ginny is survived by her sister, Marilyn, her three sons: Greg (Julie) of Richmond, Indiana; Mark (Cathy) of St. Charles, Illinois, and Jeff of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren, Carlye (David)of Anderson, Indiana; Logan of Denver, Colorado; and, Julianna of Madison, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; and some of the best of friends anyone could hope to have. All will miss her deeply. Ginny will be cremated with her ashes interred at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. There will be no service at Ginny’s request as she hopes that people will celebrate her life without mourning.
