Ricki Greenblatt
Ricki Greenblatt passed away in Delray Beach, Florida, on October 10. An educator, Ricki was born in the Bronx, NY, to Minnie and Charlie Meltzer, immigrants from Minsk. She was raised with her brother Mulick amidst Yiddish artists and intellectuals. After receiving a chemistry degree from Hunter College, she married the love of her life, Mel, in 1948, whom she met at Camp Kinderland. They moved to New Jersey and became egg farmers. Ricki then received her master’s at Trenton State Teachers College and taught for 26 years at Spruce Street School in Lakewood. She was committed to many social justice causes throughout her life, and also to her friends with whom she and Mel shared many happy times together - whether folk dancing, attending lectures on current events, boating, or singing in a Yiddish chorus. She loved the beach, books and a good football game. Ricki is survived by her husband Mel of 74 years; her children, Steven, Stan, Eric and Randi; her daughters-in-law, Sandy and Mercedes; her son-in-law Salo; her grandchildren, Joelle, Talia, Mihal, Marielle, Tony and Tiffany; and her great-granddaughter Jocelyn. Ricki was buried in the Garden of Remembrance in Clarksburg, MD. Donations in Ricki’s name can be made to Camp Kinderland (www.campkinderland.org/donate) or the Yiddish Book Center (www.yiddishbookcenter.org).
