Bulldogs go unbeaten in SEC again

-

Kenny McIntosh rushed for a careerbest 143 yards, including a crucial 9-yard score late in the third quarter, and Georgia, ranked No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, withstood Kentucky’s fourth-quarter rally Saturday for a 16-6 win and its second consecutive unbeaten season in the Southeastern Conference.

The Bulldogs (11-0, 8-0 SEC) clinched the Eastern Division title last week and sought another perfect finish in league play. They succeeded but not without difficulty, settling for three Jack Podlesny field goals before McIntosh’s TD provided a needed cushion.

Georgia’s chance to pad the lead ended on downs at Kentucky’s 1. The Wildcats to made it interesting with a 99-yard drive that ended with Will Levis’ 8-yard touchdown pass to Barion Brown. Levis’ two-point conversion pass failed, and the chance to make it a one-score game died when Matt Ruffalo’s field goal hooked left. Kentucky (6-5, 3-5) then turned it over on downs and lost for the fifth time in seven games.

McIntosh rushed 19 times with a 26-yarder for the Bulldogs, who outgained Kentucky 365-297. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett completed 13 of 19 for 116 yards with an interception.

Levis completed 20 of 31 for 206 yards with an interception for Kentucky.

8 Alabama got breakout performances from Jase McClellan and Jermaine Burton in an otherwise lackluster offensive performance against an overmatched FCS team.

McClellan rushed for a career-high 156 yards and two touchdowns and Burton caught a pair of scoring passes from Bryce Young during a 34-0 win over Austin Peay on Saturday. The Crimson Tide (9-2) took awhile to get going against Austin Peay

(7-4) in a Bryant-Denny Stadium that wasn’t much more than half full.

But McClellan and Burton had their biggest games for the Tide, which had already been knocked out of Southeastern Conference contention but was coming off a win over No. 14 Mississippi.

“All in all, we wanted to build on the momentum of how we came back and played at the end of last week’s game,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. “And obviously I thought that’s something we did a good job of today.”

McClellan has career day, ’Bama rolls: Morrison grabs 3 interceptions, Notre Dame blanks BC:

Cornerback Benjamin Morrison had three interceptions, the Notre Dame defense forced two fumbles and the No. 18 Fighting Irish scored on their first eight possessions to beat Boston College 44-0 on Saturday.

The Fighting Irish (8-3) won their ninth straight against Boston College (3-8), the only other Catholic university playing in the FBS. Notre Dame also extended its regular-season winning streak against Atlantic Coast Conference teams to 28 games.

Martinez’s 2 TDs puts Oregon St over Arizona St:

Damien Martinez ran for

137 yards and two TDs in No. 23 Oregon State’s 31-7 win over Arizona State on Saturday. The Beavers (8-3, 5-3 Pac-12) won for just the second time at ASU since

1972; they were 1-19 on the road against the Sun Devils going into the game.

The Sun Devils (3-8, 2-6) played their final home game of the season, falling to

2-6 under interim coach Shaun Aguano, who replaced Herm Edwards on Sept. 20.

Robinson runs for 243 yards, 4 TDs as Texas routs KU:

Bijan Robinson ran for career-highs of 243 yards and four touchdowns, helping Texas earn a bit of revenge against Kansas with a 55-14 victory Saturday that kept alive the Longhorns’ hopes of playing for the Big 12 championship.

The Longhorns (7-4, 5-3), who lost a 57-56 overtime thriller to the Jayhawks a year ago in Austin, need to beat Baylor next weekend while, coincidentally, getting some help from Kansas. The Jayhawks (6-5, 3-5) must also beat Kansas State in their rivalry game for Texas to play fourth-ranked TCU in the title game in Arlington.

K-State nears Big 12 title game berth:

One of No. 15 Kansas State’s longest road trips of the Big 12 season might as well have been a home game for quarterback Will Howard.

Howard threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, Cincere Mason returned an interception for a TD and the Wildcats moved closer to a berth in the Big 12 championship game by beating West Virginia 48-31 on Saturday.

Playing at West Virginia was as close as Howard will get to his hometown of Downingtown, about 280 miles (451 kilometers) from Morgantown in eastern Pennsylvania. Howard said about 30 relatives and friends cheered him on.

“I was fired up to be able to play for them,” Howard said. “Just to be able to look up and see all of them, it feels good.”

Kansas State (8-3, 6-2 Big 12) can clinch a title game spot alongside No. 4 TCU on Dec. 3 with a win in its regular season finale at home Saturday against Kansas, or with a loss by Texas to Baylor on Friday.
