Marino, Messi, Sudeikis to appear in ad
Did you hear the one about Dan Marino, Lionel Messi and Jason Sudeikis at the beach?
In honor of the upcoming Super Bowl, the two legendary “footballers” and the actor/comedian (who played a fútbol coach on TV) have teamed up for a Michelob ULTRA beer commercial. (We’re sensing a pattern here, with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa also set to appear in a Super Bowl ad for
Paramount+.)
The new 60-second ad, which has a coveted spot during the Feb.
11 game in Las Vegas, features global soccer icon and Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi (in his first-ever Super Bowl commercial) at a beach bar ordering the beer in question, only to learn the tap is out.
“Maybe a different beer?” the bartender asks.
Messi, however, declines, proclaiming, “No, Michelob Ultra,” with his customary polite smile.
“OK, be right back.”
Just as the bartender turns to get him his beer, a soccer ball fortuitously lands at his feet from a nearby pickup game. Passers-by start recognizing Messi, and he takes off across the sands of “Superior Beach,” as the ad is called, weaving a magical journey with the ball, as he’s wont to do.
When it comes to beer, Messi’s had a partnership with Michelob Ultra’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, since 2020. And closer to home, in South Florida, there’s at least one beer in his honor: The special-edition GOAT premium lager from Prison Pals Brewing Co., which has taprooms in Oakland Park and Miami. But back to the commercial … Basking in this beachside paradise along with Leo and other partiers are Miami Dolphins icon and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino and Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis. What’s their part in all of this? Well, we won’t spoil that. One thing’s for sure, though — in case you were worried — Messi does get his beer in the end.
