Help­ing girls to know their power

BLACK GIRL MAGIC: The Girl Power pro­gram is cel­e­brat­ing its 18th year of serv­ing girls and help­ing them con­nect with their in­nate power. Girl Power is a place where girls be­tween the ages of 11 and 17 can go to dis­cover their in­ner magic. Serv­ing girls from Lib­erty City, Over­town, Lit­tle Haiti, Brownsville, Al­la­p­at­tah, and nearby neigh­bor­hoods since 2000.

A fundraiser on June 9 will sup­port one of the ini­tia­tive’s sig­na­ture pro­grams. The net­work­ing and day party hap­pens at Jezebel Bar and Kitchen on Mi­ami Beach. Do­na­tions ben­e­fit the non-profit’s ser­vices, which in­clude an af­ter-school pro­gram, sum­mer camp fo­cus­ing on S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Tech­nol­ogy, En­gi­neer­ing, Arts, and Math) Sis­ter Cir­cle Men­tor­ing pro­gram, post ar­rest di­ver­sion pro­grams and the Girls Choir of Mi­ami, pic­tured above with singer Maryel Epps.
