Construction industr y job fair
LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – The construction industry sector continues to experience growth across the state. Recent data from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity shows that Broward County added 4,300 construction jobs over the year, with an average annual wage of nearly $50,000. There are currently more than 51,000 individuals employed in the construction industry throughout the state – a 9.2 percent increase from May 2017.
CareerSource Broward and Broward County Library will host a construction industry job fair on Wednesday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Broward County Lauderdale Lakes Library/Educational and Cultural Center, 3580 W. Oakland Park Blvd. Lauderdale Lakes. The one-day hiring event aims to help connect job seekers, dislocated workers and evacuees from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands with employment opportunities throughout South Florida.
"South Florida’s economy is doing extremely well, but we recognize that there are still some employers in certain industries that are having a difficult time recruiting, training and keeping skilled workers,” said Mason Jackson, Presi- dent/CEO of CareerSource Broward. “We’ve identified that there is a labor shortage in the construction industry, and as more and more people begin to relocate to our region and businesses look to expand, the demand for skilled workers is sure to increase.”
Some of the employers scheduled to participate in the job fair include Broward County government, Advanced Roofing Inc., Florida Power & Light Co., Allegiance Crane & Equipment, CJM Construction and Milspec Industries Inc. Available positions at the hiring event will include HVAC technician, mechanic, crane operator, administrative assistant, warehouse associate, electrician, roofing specialist and more.
There is no cost to attend the job fair, but pre-registration is encouraged. Registration can be completed online by visiting http://bit.ly/2018-CIJF-Jobseeker. Uber will also be offering job seekers a way to the hiring event at a discounted rate. Those needing a ride can receive 20 percent off their door-todoor Uber fare, both ways, by using the code “CAREERSOURCEFL.” For additional information about the event, contact Julia Costin at (954) 677-5555, ext. 1035, or [email protected]reersourcebroward.com.
