› I need ideas for plants that will block the view of my neighbor’s pool in Charlotte, North Carolina. Can you recommend any evergreen plants that will take full afternoon sun and also grow quickly in large containers to cover three big trellises? The planters have irrigation.

» Two fast-growing evergreen vines you should consider are Confederate jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) and Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens). The first bears sweet-scented white flowers, while the second has fragrant yellow ones. Another option is purple loropetalum. This broadleaved evergreen is very tough, drought and heat tolerant, and fast growing. It naturally forms a large shrub but accepts shearing quite well and can be trained against a trellis. extra sun. Trees that are heavily coated with lichens may be unhealthy. Yours sounds okay, but to keep it that way, give it tree fertilizer this spring and extra water during summer droughts.
