GRUMPY’S GRIPE OF THE MONTH

Southern Living (USA) - - Home & Garden -

Every holiday season, people decorate with wreaths and branches of a foreign vine called Oriental bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus). Laden with copious red and yellow berries, bittersweet can be gorgeous. However, it can also be a horrible weed if one of those seed-bearing berries falls into your garden. It spreads by twining stems and running roots capable of strangling small trees and smothering woodlands. So be warned: When it’s time for that wreath to go, seal it up in a trash bag.
