Prince-Mont swimmers looking to defend titles in final summer meet

Last Saturday morning offered numerous swimmers a chance to shine at their respective divisional meets and now the cream of the crop will be representing their pools at the annual Prince-Mont Swim League All-Star meet at West Arundel Swim Club in Laurel at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday where the events are contested in yards, not meters.

Hawthorne Country Club saw three of its swimmers record triples last Saturday morning in the Division B championships at Strathmore Bel Pre in Silver Spring and now all three Gators are hoping to use that success as a springboard to All-Star triumphs this weekend.

One of those Gators, Conor Vienneau, is the top seed in the boys 13- to 14-year-old 50 freestyle (23.65 seconds) and 100 individual medley (58.36) and the second seed in the 50 backstroke (26.75). Vienneau also established two pool records at Strathmore Bel Pre and now will look to duplicate those efforts at West Arundel on Saturday.

“I know the competition is going to be really, really tough at All-Stars,” said Vienneau, a rising freshman at La Plata High School. “I really just want to keep dropping time. It’s always exciting to win three events at any meet, but to do it at divisionals means a lot. Now I am hoping to finish up the season strong at all-stars.”

Conor and Liam Vienneau, a rising senior at La Plata, are part of the boys 18-and-Under 200 medley relay (1 minute 46.70 seconds) along with David Dugan and Mikel Reyes that is the second seed in the opening event of the meet. The older Vienneau, a double winner at divisionals, is seeded sixth in the boys 15-18 50 butterfly (25.85), fourth in the 100 free (51.74) and fifth in the 100 IM (59.39).

Hawthorne’s Esther Dugan won three events at divisionals and heads into all-stars among the higher seeds in all three events. Dugan is the top seed in the girls 12-and-Under 100 IM (1:10.85) by 1.6 seconds, seeded third in the girls 11-12 50 fly (30.49) and sixth in the 50 free (28.55). Dugan fought through a bout with pneumonia to record a triple at divisionals last weekend.

“There are a couple of events where I am looking forward to facing girls from Theresa Banks and Takoma Park,” said Dugan, who is homeschooled. “I just want to drop times. I added times [at divisionals] because I was sick all week and I couldn’t practice and I had trouble breathing, but I’m hoping to be healthy for all-stars.”

Cole Rapczynski completed a triple for the Gators at divisionals and this

weekend he is hoping to emerge victorious in at least one of those three events. Rapczynski is seeded seventh in the boys 11-12 50 fly (31.65) and ninth in the 50 breast (37.95) and sixth in the 12-U 100 IM (1:13.62).

Hawthorne’s Addy Donnick also won two events at divisionals and now is among the higher seeds in three events this weekend. Donnick is rated as the fourth seed in the girls 9-10 25 fly (15.35), the second seed in the 50 free (30.86) and the fifth seed in the 25 backstroke (17.32).

Sapp is the second seed in the boys 13-14 50 fly (25.48), 50 free (23.93) and 100 IM (59.59), the latter two behind Division B rival Conor Vienneau.

Marlins swimmer Nathalie LaFontant is the second seed in the girls 13-14 50 free (26.34), 50 breast (34.32) and seeded third in the 100 IM (1:06.59). Mya Rivenburg, a rising sophomore at North Point High School, is seeded sixth in the girls 13-14 50 free (27.23), 10th in the 50 fly (30.88) and seventh in the 100 IM (1:08.64).

Indian Head will send five swimmers for individual events and also the 18-U boys 200 medley relay.
