Police say two motor- cyclists were killed over the weekend in Charles County in separate crashes Saturday and Sunday.

Joseph Warren Bryant II, 27, of Mechanicsville was killed in a two-vehicle accident Saturday after colliding with a turning vehicle in La Plata. Nathan William Guterry, 25, of Lexington Park died Sunday evening after crashing into a guardrail in Hughesville.

Around 4:19 p.m. on Feb. 18, Maryland State Police troopers responded to the collision in the area of U.S. 301 and Sadie Lane, a news release states. Witnesses told police that Bryant had been traveling at an

excessive rate of speed when he crashed into a Ford Sport Trac that had been turning left onto Sadie Lane from northbound U.S. 301.

As a result of the crash, Bryant was pronounced dead on the scene, ac- cording to authorities, and the driver of the Sport Trac was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Police noted that Bryant had been driving on a suspended driver’s license.

Cpl. M. Galgan, a col- lision reconstruction specialist, is continuing the investigation, police stated. Findings will be submitted to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office for review at the conclusion of the investigation.

In Sunday’s accident, police said around 7:20 p.m. on Feb. 19, troopers responded to the crash site in the area of Leonardtown Road and Webbs Place. Investiga- tion showed that Guter- ry had been traveling southbound on Leonardtown Road when he failed to “negotiate a curve in the roadway” and struck a guardrail, ejecting him from the motorcycle.

He was pronounced dead on the scene, police reported. Investigators believe that driver error and speed caused the accident; witnesses told troopers that Guterry had been traveling at a high rate of speed in and out of traffic several miles north of the crash site.

Tfc. T. Hooten, a collision reconstruction specialist, is continuing the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed or who has information regarding the collision involving Guterry is asked to contact the Maryland State Police La Plata barrack duty officer at 301-3921200 and reference case number 17-MSP007453.
