Co-defendant’s trial delayed in 2011 murder case

New court dates for both men pending

Scheduled to begin this week, the trial for the sec- ond of two men accused of killing a woman in Nan- jemoy in 2011 was postponed Monday.

A new trial date for Dar- rayl John Wilson, 25, will likely be set on March 3, as he and Raymond Daniel Posey, 24, both of Nanjemoy, are scheduled to appear in court for status conferences. The defendants stand accused of murdering Crystal Anderson, 29, formerly of Landover in a drug-related robbery.

Posey — found not

guilty on nine of 13 counts in a partial verdict last week — will be retried by the state on the remaining counts the jury could not agree on, including con- spiracy to commit first-degree murder, which car- ries a life sentence, and second-degree murder.

The state believes that on the night of July 26, 2011, the defendants drove Anderson from a house party in Nanjemoy to Prince George’s Coun- ty, where she picked up PCP from her supplier, a drug she regularly sold and used, before they returned to the area and robbed her, shot her to death and threw her body over a guardrail, down a ravine. Posey, they believe, was in part motivat- ed by a $2,000 drug debt owed to Anderson by Posey’s brother, and her attempts to seek him out.

She remained missing until Jan. 2, 2012, when an unsuspecting hiker stum- bled upon a boot with her leg bone protruding. In the following days, specialized K-9s helped police recover more bones, a little more than half of An- derson’s skeletal remains, though no cause of death could be determined by medical examiners. Of the remains recovered, there were no signs of in- jury. No murder weapon or shell casings were ever found.

After nearly four years of investigation, Posey was arrested at his family’s Nanjemoy home, indicted by a grand jury in March 2015, and Wilson was in- dicted in July 2015.

Details of Wilson’s al- leged involvement remain limited, but during Posey’s trial it was revealed — during a motions hearing outside the jury’s presence — that he told police he had been inside the car while Posey shot Anderson.

It was also revealed that Anderson had moved into Wilson’s family home in Nanjemoy shortly before her disappearance. Witnesses testimony suggested that, around the time she was last seen, Wilson and Posey began selling Anderson’s clothing and shoes and had allegedly tried to sell two handguns to acquaintances.
