Jenifer student to represent Charles County at Maryland Day Celebration
Aminah Wright, a fourth grader at Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer Elementar y School, likes to write and enjoys learning about history. She especially enjoys learning about Maryland and the histor y of Charles County. Wright recently put her thoughts in writing and was selected for her essay as Charles County’s student representative for the Historic St. Mar y’s City Mar yland Day Celebration.
As part of the celebration, student representatives from each Maryland county, as well as Baltimore City, will participate in the flag ceremony on March 25 and carry a flag to represent Charles County.
Several Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students entered the contest. Wright’s essay, titled “Why I’m Proud to Live in Charles County,” was chosen as the winning entry by CCPS staff. In her essay, Wrights details the histor y of Mar yland, Charles County and the surrounding geography. Wright said she is proud to represent her hometown and enjoys benefits of living near the ocean.
“I am proud to live in Charles County because of the great location of Maryland by the sea, and the great sea life here. My personal favorites are calamari and crab. Growing sea life brings more jobs for people, food and clothes on their backs,” Wright said.
In her essay, Wright also talks about the school system and how she thinks her school is great. “Our teachers are nice and make it ver y easy to understand what they are teaching us,” she said. The ceremony, which will highlight Maryland’s 383rd anniversary, starts at 10 a.m. at the Historic St. Mary’s City Visitor Center.
