Coopers celebrate 70th wedding anniversary
Francis X. and Mary June Cooper celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Thursday, April 6. The couple was married April 6, 1947, and raised eight children.
Francis X. Cooper joined the Air Force in 1942 during World War II. He retired from St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Charles County Government. Cooper is a former commander at American Legion Post 170 in Indian Head, and an active member of Knights of St. John in McConchie and The Loyal Sportsmans Social Club.
Mary June Cooper was employed as a nurse with Physicians Memorial Hospital in La Plata, where she worked for over 35 years. After retiring from the hospital, she provided private home care for several patients, raised her grandchildren, and cared for her parents and relatives.
The Coopers are members of the Elks Lodge in Newburg and American Legion Post 170. They reside in La Plata where Mary June Cooper’s grandparents, Richard and Martha Hemsley Bivins, owned more than 180 acres of land.
