Ronald Lee Bennett, 65, of Fort Washington, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, MD. Ronald was born to the late Richard Bennett and surviving Lucille (Simmons) Lakip on Jan. 11, 1952. He is preceded by his brother, Timothy Bennett.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Theresa A. (Orban) Bennett; his sister, Susan (Bennett) Simpson; his brother, Linwood Bennett; and his nephews: Richard Bennett, Brad Bennett, and Michael Bennett.

Ronald Bennett served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, where he was honorably discharged. After serving, Ronald moved to Riverdale, MD, where he began working for the United Parcel Service as a loader and sorter. It was during this time, he met Theresa A. Orban. After moving to Fort Washington, MD, Ronald and Theresa were married on Jan. 21, 1985. In 1991, Ronald and Theresa took custody of his late brother’s son, Richard Bennett, where they raised him as their own. Ronald later retired from the United Parcel Service in June 2000.

Ronald truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with family and friends, attending to his yard, taking care of animals and providing for his wife and nephew. Ronald could make friends with anyone and had the uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. He will be remembered by his family as kind-hearted, very hardworkin­g man that placed his family and friends before anything else, even himself.

Services will be held Williams Funeral Home, 4720 Hawthorne Road, Indian Head, MD 20640 on Wednesday, June 7, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The family will be there to greet relatives and friends.

A memorial reception will also be held on Wednesday, June 7th, 7 p.m. at the Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department, 3099 Livingston Road, Bryans Road, MD 20616.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to help cover the cost of funeral expenses.
