School board honors exemplary students for their accomplishments
The Board of Education at its Nov. 14 meeting honored five Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students for their accomplishments in academic achievement, personal responsibility and career readiness. They are Parshva Patel, senior, La Plata High School; Joseph Arnold, eighth grade, Piccowaxen Middle School; Martina Marchi, fifth grade, Berry Elementar y School; Macy Flint, fifth grade, Dr. Thomas L. Higdon Elementary School; and Darrell Jackson Jr., fifth grade, Eva Turner Elementary School.
Patel was honored by the board for his accomplishments in the area of academic achievement. He is an honor roll student and active in the La Plata school community. Patel is a member of the La Plata tennis team, student government association and key club. His current grade-point average is 4.29. Outside of school, Patel is an active volunteer with his church. He recently completed an internship at an internal medicine practice.
Arnold is an honor roll student and was recognized before the board for academic achievement and ser ving as a role model for his peers. He has maintained all A’s since he started middle school and has a 4.0 GPA. Arnold is a member of the school band and represented Piccowaxen in the All-County Band this school year. He wants to play professional baseball after he graduates or study to become a veterinarian.
Marchi is a role model for her peers at Berry and was honored before the board in the area of career readiness. She is bilingual and also enrolled in an online Italian school. She is active with the children’s ministry at her church and aspires to be a teacher. According to her teachers, Marchi is an example of a hard-working student with a bright future.
Flint was honored before the board in the area of career readiness. She has been a member of the Higdon academic and personal responsibility honor rolls since she was in the third grade. Flint is in the accelerated math program, is on the executive committee for the Kiwanis Kids, known as the K-Kids Club, and volunteers with other community-related organizations.
Jackson was recognized by the Board in the area of personal responsibility. He has attended Turner since kindergarten and excels academically and with school-related activities. He has maintained honor roll grades each quarter and was identified for gifted services as a second grader. Jackson is an active member of the school band, chess club, K-Kids Club and student mentor reading program.
The Board of Education honors outstanding CCPS students and staff members during its monthly meetings. Those honored are chosen by their school principals for demonstrating excellence in the classroom and school community.
